In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, WWE has crowned a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in a match that made history at Night of Champions.
With AJ Styles facing off against Seth Rollins to be the inaugural title holder of the newest iteration of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was crowned tonight (May 27).
With a series of stunning near falls (including a after a grisly looking Neck breaker from Styles on Rollins and an Inverted Super plex from the ropes from Rollins on Styles) it truly felt like anyone’s championship to win throughout the match.
With both men having knocked off several of WWE’s top stars to get to this Night of Champions WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament final, it truly was a display of strength.
Throughout the match Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary discussed the rich history between AJ Styles and Seth Rollins including that Rollins had studied Styles throughout his career.
With Rollins able to counter and prevent the third Styles Clash of the match, instead Styles hit a Pedigree on Rollins but still, not able to capture the three-count.
While Styles attempted a Phenomenal Forearm, instead he flew into a massive kick from Seth Rollins but when he went for the stomp, his ‘bad knee buckled’ as the action continued.
Rollins was able to land a Pedigree before finally hitting the Stomp to capture the pinfall victory over AJ Styles to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
“Seth Rollins, that’s the guy to carry this thing forward,” declared Michael Cole on commentary as Triple H presented Rollins with the new title belt.
“Change, it is a’comin’ and Rollins be thy name,” punctuated Corey Graves on commentary as the moment played out in front of a delighted Jeddah, Saudi Arabia crowd.
