RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munchen: Mané on target as Bayern Gnab Super Cup

Bayern Munich won the DFL-Supercup for the 10th time in their history, defeating RB Leipzig 5-3. Die Roten Bullen pulled three goals back in the second-half to create a grandstand finish, but it wasn’t enough to deny Julian Nagelsmann’s side their first silverware of the season.
Following their DFB Pokal cup success last season, RB Leipzig were appearing in their first DFL-Supercup and were given the right to host at the Red Bull Arena, in a showdown with last season’s Bundesliga champions. Star signing Sadio Mané started, but it was Jamal Musiala that opened the scoring for Bayern, firing home from inside the penalty area, as the nine-time winners of the Supercup went in-front. Bayern increased their authority on the game, doubling their lead on the half-hour mark, as Mané tapped home his first official goal for his new club. With the atmosphere suppressed, things went from bad to worse for Leipzig in the closing minutes of the first period when Benjamin Pavard fired home from 12 yards out. Bayern emerged after the break searching for more goals, with Serge Gnabry going close, firing wide from an acute angle. However, Leipzig showed that they were still there to compete, when substitute André Silva crashed a header against the crossbar. Bayern failed to heed their warning, as Marcel Hastenburg pulled a goal back on the hour. Moments later, Leipzig’s hopes of getting back in the game were dashed when Müller’s shot was blocked, allowing Gnabry to follow up and score Bayern’s fourth. Domenico Tedesco's men refused to give up hope, with Christopher Nkunku netting from the spot, before Dani Olmo reduced the arrears to a single goal in the 89th minute. Bayern looked stunned, but used all of their experience to regain their composure, adding a fifth to put the result beyond doubt. Leroy Sané found the back of the net in the eighth minute of stoppage time, securing a sixth Supercup in seven seasons for his side.
