Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) returned to the wrestling ring at last night’s NJPW Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California.
Mercedes became the second ever IWGP Women’s Champion when she defeated inaugural champion KAIRI for the title on the show.
This was her first wrestling match since her and Naomi walked out of the May 16 episode of WWE Raw last year, vacating the Women’s Tag Team Championship in the process.
Since then, WWE creative has changed hands, now being run by Triple H, which has led to possible speculation of her eventually returning to the company.
Mercedes spoke with Marc Raimondi of ESPN, where she discussed a potential return to WWE.
She said that she will follow her heart, and as always to ‘never say never’.
She said:
“I guess people like to say ‘never say never.’ You never know in life. I never knew life would take me here, but I always follow my heart so wherever my heart takes me is where I’m going to go.”
Several of Mercedes’ friends from WWE were in attendance at last night’s show in support of her return to the ring.
