The long-awaited premiere of AEW Collision saw the even longer-awaited return of CM Punk to our television screens, not only competing in the main event of the show but also opening with an impassioned promo.

While Punk seemingly teased a future AEW World Championship match with MJF at some point down the road, fans will more immediately be wondering whether Punk will in fact be competing at Forbidden Door on June 25, more specifically will the ‘Best in the World’ finally be taking on NJPW’s KENTA.
Despite KENTA’s clear desire for the ‘dream’ match to happen, the NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion’s latest social media activity may have unfortunately put the nail in the coffin on the whole idea.

Taking to Twitter, KENTA wrote:

While also updating his Twitter bio to read:

KENTA’s clamouring for a match with Punk has dated back quite a while, mostly due to Punk’s historic use of KENTA’s Go To Sleep finishing move, one Punk openly admitted he stole from KENTA.
However, given the hype for Forbidden Door II as well as CM Punk’s AEW return KENTA has used his social media in an attempt to lobby for the match to happen.
While the social media feud was totally one-sided on KENTA’s part, the match did at one point seem likely to become a reality.

According to Fightful Select the internal rumblings were that AEW were considering Punk vs KENTA for Forbidden Door, however, it was later revealed that Punk was not keen on the idea.
So now, with KENTA’s latest post’s as well as the complete lack of build to a potential match the prospects of the GTS battle finally happening are looking slimmer than ever.
