A WWE Hall of Famer has exposed the upside of the love/hate relationship that AEW fans have towards CM Punk.

With CM Punk’s return to AEW television cemented following the debut episode of Collision on June 17, an appearance on AEW Dynamite and his recent match with Satoshi Kojima at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, we’ve seen the breadth of fan reaction to the returning star.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has now exposed that upside of CM Punk from a business perspective on Busted Open Radio, saying:

“Whether they love you or whether they hate you, they have some kind of an emotional response to you.
“Now there’s a two-fold scenario going on with Punk: People who are going to want to see Punk and cheer him; people who are gonna buy tickets to see CM Punk and boo him.
“What’s the common denominator? Buy tickets.”

While initial ticket sale numbers for Collision (beyond Chicago) were looking very rough at first due to AEW running so many shows in the same areas and even the same venues just days apart, there was a very noticeable increase after Punk actually returned and the first AEW Collision had aired.
Another aspect that Bully Ray looked at was the “loose cannon” mindset of CM Punk, noting that:
“You’re not quite sure what you’re gonna get from Punk.”

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Punk’s victory over Kojima sees him progress to the second round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament.
