A current AEW star has weighed in on the company potentially adding to their pay-per-view schedule in the future.

While AEW operated under a four pay-per-view per year format in its first few years, since 2022, this expanded to five following the introduction of Forbidden Door.
Leading now to 2023 where a sixth event has now been added to the calendar, that being August 27’s All In from London, England.
And now with AEW potentially being pushed by Warner Bros Discovery to adopt a WWE-style monthly pay-per-view format, Matt Hardy has weighed in on the matter via his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast.

As someone who has plenty experience working under both WWE and AEW’s different scheduling, Hardy firstly shared his thoughts on AEW’s current approach, saying:
“It’s intriguing, I think one of the things that makes AEW pay-per-views so solid and so great is that all the matches usually have a good and decent amount of time to tell a backstory, which leads up to that match.
“There’s history in all the matches, there’s a reason for these guys to be fighting, there’s a reason you want to see this fight, there’s a reason you want a certain guy to win, and whatnot.
“That’s one of the beautiful things about pro wrestling.”

Hardy then added to this opinion further by harkening back to WWE when they just had the ‘big four’ of Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series and why he felt that worked best.
Hardy said:
“Even if you look at WWE back in the day when they had the big four.
“When they had Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series, it just felt like those pay-per-views were bigger deals.
“I think in some ways, that made the pay-per-view feel like a bigger deal, and you buy it like it’s a bigger deal.”

Tony Khan recently confirmed in the press conference for AEW Blood & Guts and ROH Death Before Dishonor, that he had in fact held discussions with WBD regarding expanding the company’s pay-per-view line-up, citing that it would be ‘revenue positive’.
Tonight (July 21), Tony Khan’s next pay-per-view event is under the ROH brand with Death Before Dishonor from the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
