A top AEW star has discussed wanting to get better on promos.

Kris Statlander has positioned herself as one of the top stars of All Elite Wrestling after winning the TBS Championship and defending the gold against the likes of Jade Cargill, Ruby Soho and Britt Baker.
Despite not having many opportunities on the mic, Statlander has also had a few memorable moments talking, such as squatting Renee Paquette during a promo.

On the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, the reigning AEW TBS Champion explained her approach to promos. Statlander said:
“I still feel very awkward on the microphone and speaking all the time. I just force myself to do it a lot more often so I have to get better at it.”
“I know I’m not the best at it and I know I’m not any special talker and I don’t have the best vernacular, and my tone isn’t always great and I come off very awkward.”
“I’m aware of all that, but I know the more that I do it, the better I’ll be at it.”

Statlander continued on to explain how socially awkward she feels when speaking, saying:
“You’d be surprised how socially awkward I can be. I know a lot of wrestlers and people in wrestling, and I’m more comfortable around them. It is what it is at this point.”
“I just don’t care. I know I’m awkward, I acknowledge it, I own up to it, and it’s something I can’t control.”
“One of the things with wrestling promos is you have to be yelling and passionate. I’m passionate, I just don’t feel like yelling right now.”

Kris Statlander has found different ways of communicating with fans, such as doing sign language following her wins as of late on AEW TV.
Statlander will defend the AEW TBS Championship against Julia Hart this Sunday at AEW WrestleDream. For the full lineup for the event, click here.
